(Posted Jan 9, 2013) – Marshall University is seeking a leading trauma surgeon to serve as the Chief of the Division of Acute Care Surgery and Surgical Critical Care. This position reports to the Chairman of Surgery and is responsible for the development of a high quality academically focused division providing services at both Level II trauma centers at academically affiliated Cabell Huntington Hospital(303 staffed beds with 60K ED visits/yr.) and St. Mary’s Medical Center(393 beds seeing 72K ED visits/yr). Accordingly, the Chief will develop and oversee surgical teams for treatment of trauma, critical care and acute care surgery patients, organize research initiatives, seek and acquire grants, and encourage publications and presentations in prestigious venues nationally.
The Chief will implement and oversee related programs in teaching, research and service. This individual will provide leadership in direct patient care and quality improvement initiatives, while collaborating with the basic sciences and other clinical services to develop related research and educational programs.
The successful candidate for this position will have:
• A strong background in academic surgery and Board Certification in Surgery and Surgical Critical Care.
• A successful track record in surgical leadership, particularly in organizing and building programs.
• A talent for developing and supporting academic surgery programs.
• A demonstrable skill in both attracting and cultivating new talent to assure that the division reaches its full potential.
• Ability to work collaboratively with division chiefs, department chairs, hospital administration, and lay boards.
