(Posted May 23, 2013) – The Government of Rwanda aims to build a high quality, sustainable health system. However, Rwanda currently faces a severe deficit of physicians and other healthcare workers, and a key root cause is the lack of faculty to train future physicians. There are very few trained subspecialists in Rwanda and residency training programs, which began in 2005, are still in early stages of development. The Ministry of Health in Rwanda developed the Human Resources for Health (HRH) Program with two goals: (1) to develop the clinical, teaching, and research skills of current and future Rwandan medical faculty (2) to create a strong cadre of specialists to meet patient care needs at district, provincial, and referral hospitals. The Ministry of Health is partnering with a consortium of US institutions to deploy over 450 physicians, nurses, and health management educators to support clinical faculty and education in Rwanda over the 7 years of the program. The program was inaugurated in August 2012 and is now seeking applications for the 2013-14 academic year. For more information about our program visit our website: http://hrhconsortium.moh.gov.rw/
