(Posted Jul 31, 2013) – The Department of Surgery at Boston University School of Medicine and Boston Medical Center is seeking a faculty member to join the Division of Acute Care Surgery, with interest in traumatology, surgical critical care, and emergency general surgery. Boston Medical Center includes a Level 1 trauma center in the City of Boston that admits ~2000 patients annually of whom 20% suffer from penetrating trauma. The Division of Acute Care Surgery faculty members also admit ~1000 emergency general surgery patients of whom two-thirds require an operation. One 10 bed surgical intensive care unit is dedicated to Acute Care Surgery. Clinical responsibilities include a broad practice with a high volume of trauma and emergency general surgery admissions including a surgical critical care service. The institutions boasts ACGME-accredited General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care training programs, as well as a robust and academically active group of mid-level providers that assists faculty with the care of our patients in the operating room, the intensive care unit, on the floor service and in our clinics. Teaching opportunities include supervision and training of surgical critical care fellows, general surgery residents, medical students and PA students. There are extraordinary opportunities for research based on patient volume and acuity. Potential for scholarly productivity will be important for competitive candidates. (Posted Aug 2, 2013) – Advocate Medical Group (AMG), an operating division of Advocate Health Care system seeks an additional trauma / surgical critical care physician to join a seven person group at Advocate Christ Medical Center (ACMC), a designated Level I trauma center for the state of Illinois. The ideal candidate for this position will be a fellowship-trained, board certified or board eligible trauma surgeon /surgical intensivist. The selected individual must possess superior skills in the care of acutely injured and critically ill surgical patients along with the ability to function collaboratively in a team environment. Advocate Christ Medical Center (ACMC) is a leading community based academic medical center located just outside of Chicago in Oak Lawn, Illinois. ACMC is a major teaching affiliate of the University Of Illinois College Of Medicine at Chicago. As the primary Level I trauma center serving Chicago’s Southside, Southern Cook County, and Lake County, Indiana, the medical center sees approximately 4000 trauma patients per year with 35% penetrating trauma. Over 1000 operative cases (trauma only) are expected to be performed by the trauma service this year. The position will involve all aspects of evaluation and clinical care of trauma patients with 4 to 5 “in house” trauma calls per month anticipated. Other responsibilities will include critical care coverage for 20 to 30 surgical intensive care unit beds and teaching of medical students, surgery residents, emergency medicine residents, and pulmonary fellows.
