Completion of an accredited general surgery residency is required, fellowship training in critical care required. The position includes trauma, ICU, and general surgery practice. Responsibilities also include education of medical students, residents, and fellows. We have been RRC approved for a Surgical Critical Care Fellowship and will begin training our second class of fellows starting July 2013. Compensation is competitive with an academic rank at the level of Assistant or Associate Professor. Candidates should possess a strong interest in teaching and/or research. Albany Medical Center is a 630-bed tertiary care hospital and the only Level I trauma center in Northeastern New York State. The medical center has nearly completed a $360 million expansion. The expansion includes new office and clinic space for the department of surgery as well as new, expanded ICUs and operating rooms. The Trauma service had over 2600 NTDB admissions in 2012, approximately 90% blunt and 10% penetrating. Our SICU service has over 1300 admissions per year. Registry -Collaborate with Trauma Registry personnel to assure timely entry and validity of trauma registry data. -Analyze data; identify trends/areas for improvement in processes, structures, and systems impacting trauma care patient outcomes. -Assume primary responsibility in collaboration with the Trauma Medical Director in tracing, monitoring, and evaluation of state required indicators. -Assume primary responsibility in collaboration with the Trauma Medical Director/trauma physicians for developing, reviewing, and analyzing institutional trauma indicators determining variances and assuring follow-up resolution or monitoring for trends by indicator and service. -Collaborate with unit nursing directors, clinical educators, nurse liaisons, and Registry personnel to assure effective tracking, monitoring, and evaluation of Department of Health and RMCBP trauma indicators. Performance Improvement -Coordinate meetings of the Trauma Quality Management Committee. -Prepare monthly variance report based upon findings from the Trauma Quality Management Committee meeting. -Monitor, evaluate, and communicate quality management issues to pre-hospital providers, and participate in quality improvement activities designed to strengthen pre-hospital care. -Prepare a quarterly report of variances and outliers, sources of problems, actions taken, and effectiveness of resolution. -Participate in conducting and analyzing annual evaluation of the Trauma Quality Management plan. -Prepare an annual report summarizing all areas identified as problematic/needing improvement, with actions taken and status of outcomes. -Active participation in State and Regional trauma agencies. External Liaison -Collaborate and maintain liaison role to assure cooperation with police, state attorney, and medical examiner’s office regarding criminal investigations/evidentiary requirements. -Troubleshoot / problem-solve systems’ problems related to rescue/trauma center communication and transportation systems. -Provide consultative services to health care providers, administrators, and health care consumers regarding trauma care/services. Disaster Preparedness -Maintain current knowledge regarding disaster/hurricane preparedness/emergency management. -Assist Emergency Operations Coordinator educating staff, physicians and ancillary services regarding disaster/hurricane preparedness and procedures. Actively participate in the hospital disaster preparedness committee. Continuing Education -Coordinate community and regional referral hospital education related to trauma and injury prevention. Boston Medical Center includes a Level 1 trauma center in the City of Boston that admits ~2000 patients annually of whom 20% suffer from penetrating trauma. The Division of Acute Care Surgery faculty members also admit ~1000 emergency general surgery patients of whom two-thirds require an operation. One 10 bed surgical intensive care unit is dedicated to Acute Care Surgery. Clinical responsibilities include a broad practice with a high volume of trauma and emergency general surgery admissions including a surgical critical care service. The institutions boasts ACGME-accredited General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care training programs, as well as a robust and academically active group of mid-level providers that assists faculty with the care of our patients in the operating room, the intensive care unit, on the floor service and in our clinics. The ideal candidate for this position will be a fellowship-trained, board certified or board eligible trauma surgeon /surgical intensivist. The selected individual must possess superior skills in the care of acutely injured and critically ill surgical patients along with the ability to function collaboratively in a team environment. Advocate Christ Medical Center (ACMC) is a leading community based academic medical center located just outside of Chicago in Oak Lawn, Illinois. ACMC is a major teaching affiliate of the University Of Illinois College Of Medicine at Chicago. As the primary Level I trauma center serving Chicago’s Southside, Southern Cook County, and Lake County, Indiana, the medical center sees approximately 4000 trauma patients per year with 35% penetrating trauma. Over 1000 operative cases (trauma only) are expected to be performed by the trauma service this year. The position will involve all aspects of evaluation and clinical care of trauma patients with 4 to 5 “in house” trauma calls per month anticipated. Other responsibilities will include critical care coverage for 20 to 30 surgical intensive care unit beds and teaching of medical students, surgery residents, emergency medicine residents, and pulmonary fellows.
