(Posted Apr 8, 2014) – West Virginia University School of Medicine is seeking an energetic, academic oriented surgeon with critical care fellowship training (BC/BE). The candidate will join four others in an ACS verified Level I trauma center. The Jon Michael Moore Trauma Center is one of only 2 Level One trauma centers for the state of WV. The Center treats over 3,000 trauma patients per year with approximately 2100 admissions to the service each year. The service has support from dedicated midlevel providers and nurse clinicians. Responsibilities include trauma, surgical critical care, and elective and emergency general surgery along with teaching of residents and medical students. Opportunities for involvement in outreach, injury prevention, pre-hospital education and research are all available and encouraged. WVU Hospitals, Inc., a 530-bed facility, includes a Level 1 Trauma Center and Children’s Hospital. There are 56 adult critical care beds at this time. A new tower is under construction that will increase the total patient beds by more than 100. There is a dedicated 4000 sq foot simulation lab with state of the art equipment and debriefing rooms to enhance educational opportunities of residents and other practitioners. The surgical education suite houses the FLS training as well as a virtual reality endoscopic unit. U.S. News & World Report ranked West Virginia University Hospitals in Morgantown #1 in the state for the last two years. The Department staffs the Maricopa Medical Center, a 300-bed community hospital that includes both a Trauma Center (Adult Level I and Pediatric Level II) and the Arizona Burn Center. We are one of only 13 hospitals nationwide verified by the American College of Surgeons for Adult & Pediatric trauma care and by the American Burn Association for burn care. Our trauma registry adds about 2400 new patients annually, of which about 1600 are admitted. Maricopa Medical Center is a teaching hospital with a fully accredited ACGME General Surgery Residency and the onlyACGME accredited Surgical Critical Care residency in Phoenix. The successful candidate must have completed Trauma / Surgical Critical Care or Acute Care Surgery fellowship training , be BC/BE General Surgeon as well as BC/BE in Surgical Critical Care. (Posted Apr 25, 2014) – Loyola University Health System and Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine seeks an exceptional individual to join the Trauma, Critical Care and Acute Care Surgery Division. Loyola is a busy Level 1 trauma center and ACS/ABA approved Burn Center located in Maywood, on the western edge of Chicago. The Division has an active Acute Care Surgery Service with an in house 24-7 attending presence. There is an ICU fellowship with plans to expand to become an AAST Acute Care Surgery fellowship. The clinical and educational programs are closely aligned with the Burn Shock Trauma Research Institute (BSTRI). The BSTRI programs include ongoing basic, translational and clinical trial activities in wound healing, acute kidney injury, fracture healing and alcohol associated injuries. There are 2 NIH T32 training grants within the BSTI in addition to NIH and DOD etc funding totaling $6.2M (FY12).Since 2010, the Loyola Dept of Surgery has significantly expanded with recruitment of new faculty and reconstituted programs in transplant, plastics, colorectal, HPB, vascular, endocrine and trauma surgery. Loyola is ranked #18 nationally in NIH funding among departments of surgery (FY13; http://www.brimr.org/NIH_Awards/NIH_Awards.htm ). A medical degree and board certification (and/or eligibility) in General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care are required. This is a full-time faculty position. Salary will be commensurate with experience. The successful candidate will be at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. LUHS is a member of Trinity Health, one of the largest Catholic Health Systems in the United States. The new facilities have leveraged decades of experience to design a brand new space, literally from the ground up, that will modernize and expand our capabilities in areas including Trauma Critical Care, Neurocritical care, Neurosurgery, IR, Neuro IR, and Ortho Trauma care. Penn Medicine is committed to ensuring that the Penn Medicine Trauma Center at Presbyterian Medical Center will provide world-class care to trauma patients on Day 1. To be successful, we need uniquely qualified leaders in Advanced Practice with the skill, experience, expertise and passion to fill these new and exciting roles in the expanded Trauma Program. These ACNPs or PAs will be working with board certified intensivists, on intra-disciplinary ICU teams providing front line management of critically ill or injured patients. Our 2 new critical care services will provide ICU management of trauma, neurotrauma, emergency surgery, and neurosurgical patient populations. The Advanced Practitioners (APs) in the Trauma Critical Care Unit and NeuroCritical Care unit will function autonomously and in collaboration with intensivists, surgeons, nurses, and other health care professionals to diagnose, treat, and manage complex injuries and critical illness. These APs will also perform procedures as outlined in the privileging agreements (central lines, arterial lines, chest tubes, bronchoscopy, ICP monitor placements). The AP model of care will be 24/7/365. Minimum Requirements • Master’s prepared Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant • Pennsylvania state licensure and certification as an ACNP or PA-C is required. • BLS, ACLS required. The call for Mentors and Mentees is now open!  All applications must be submitted by May 31, 2014 for consideration.

The goal of the Mentoring Program is promotion of academic and personal growth of the young acute care surgeon by providing extramural mentorship over a 2-year period.  We expect pairs to develop and submit an annual strategic plan, communicate with each other consistently, meet each other annually, and hopefully develop a long-term relationship.

Saint Joseph’s Regional Medical Center (SJRMC) has an open AOA-approved D.O. surgical critical care fellowship position for the 2014-2015 academic year. This is a 1 year fellowship program at SJRMC, a 700-bed, tertiary care medical center in Paterson, New Jersey, with a level II trauma designation by the Committee on Trauma of the American College of Surgeons. The trauma service cares for over 1,500 patients yearly, with about 1,000 admissions. The surgical ICU is a twelve-bed, state-of-the-art, facility located in the critical care tower. SJRMC also has a very busy open-heart, vascular, thoracic, bariatric and hepatobiliary surgery programs. The surgical ICU fellow will rotate nine months in the surgical ICU, one month in the Burn ICU at Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx, NY, one month in the Neurocritical care ICU, and will have an opportunity to spend a one month elective on trauma, MICU, PICU, CCU, Nephrology or Infectious Diseases Services. Consideration will be given to qualified applicants who have completed an AOA-approved surgical residency training program prior to the start of the fellowship.
