(Posted Sep 2, 2016) – Urgent Surgery Associates, P.A. is a private group 10 of trauma, surgical critical care specialists and acute care surgeons at Baylor University Medical Center (BUMC) in Dallas, ranked # 1 in Dallas and # 3 in Texas by U.S. News & World Report. BUMC is a 1,008-bed tertiary care hospital in the heart of Dallas with a high level of acuity and approximately 39,000 admissions a year. Since 1997, the American College of Surgeons has recognized BUMC as a Level 1 Trauma Center with approximately 2,400 admissions yearly. There are 123 total ICU beds, 57 of which are surgical ICU beds. Currently, our surgical critical care faculty provides care for trauma, acute care surgery, general surgery, solid organ transplant, heart and lung transplant, cardiothoracic, neurosurgery, orthopedic and orthopedic spinal surgery, ENT, oral surgery, OB-GYN, and plastic surgery. The surgeons in the Division of Trauma, Critical Care and Acute Care Surgery have always been closely involved in the ACGME approved general surgery resident education (9 residents a year), as well as research and quality initiatives. Also there is an ACGME accredited Trauma and Surgical Critical Care Fellowship for four fellows yearly. Our surgeons also serve as Texas A & M Health Science Center College of Medicine faculty and are heavily involved in medical student education. Candidates for the position must be certified (or eligible for certification) by the American Board of Surgery in both general surgery and surgical critical care.

(Posted Sep 8, 2016) – The division of Trauma and Critical Care Surgery is actively recruiting Physician Assistants or Nurse Practitioners to our Trauma Team as we work towards achieving an ACS Level II Trauma Center designation. The Advanced Practice Professionals (APP's) will report directly to the Trauma Program Director and will be responsible for providing trauma, surgical critical care, and acute care surgery coverage. The right candidate(s) will have a Physician Assistant degree from an accredited Physician’s Assistant Program or be a Graduate of an Accredited Nurse Practitioners Program with preference & clinical focus on Surgery and/or Critical Care. Current licensure in the state of New York. He or she will also have current certification in BLS, ACLS, PALS, & ATLS. He or she will have completed a recent PA surgical residency or have at least 5 years or more work experience as a Surgical NP. All candidates must be Board Certified by either the ANCC / AANP or NCCPA The specialties that these advanced practice professionals would serve could be shared. While trauma / surgery is the area our main focus is now, as the ability to take on surgically trained APP's expands, having them work in Ortho, Urology, Breast Surgery & Critical Care / Pulmonary could be a possibility. The number of physicians they’ll be working with, to start, will be the 3 to 5 trauma surgeons with an expansion based upon the specialty mix noted. There will be a component of call coverage required which, currently would be an average of approximately 5 per month. The candidate would most likely be 1st Assistant on the majority of cases with a care split between clinical / 1st Assist approximately 60/40. This session will focus on the new EAST Practice Management Guideline on C-Spine Clearance in the Obtunded Patient. This new PMG supports clearing the cervical spine and removing cervical spine precautions based on a negative high-quality CT scan and no further imaging. This remains a controversial topic, with many experts arguing for continuation of cervical spine immobilization and/or performing MRI of the c-spine to ensure that there is no major ligamentous injury with instability.

(Posted Sep 22, 2016) – Advanced Surgical Associates (ASA) is seeking a fellowship-trained surgeon to serve as Associate Trauma Medical Director at Banner Desert Medical Center. Banner Desert Medical Center (BDMC) / Cardon Children’s Medical Center (CCMC) is a community hospital with more than 600 licensed beds, of which 150 are devoted to pediatric patients. The hospital anticipates provisional designation as an Arizona Level I Trauma Center in the early Spring 2017 and will seek separate ACS Level II verifications for both Adults and Pediatrics. BDMC/CCMC will become only the second Trauma Center capable of managing both Adult and Pediatric patients in the Phoenix metro area and expects adding more than 2500 patients to its trauma registry annually. Candidates must have completed fellowship training in either Surgical Critical Care (with emphasis in Trauma Surgery) or Acute Care Surgery and be Board-certified in both General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care. Two years post-fellowship experience is preferred. Administrative duties will include providing education of nursing and allied health personnel, assisting with development of treatment guidelines and participation in performance improvement and patient safety activities. Clinical duties will involve trauma surgery, including the initial management of pediatric trauma patients, as well as surgical critical care and emergency general surgery. ASA is a multi-specialty surgery group that is contracted to provide trauma surgeons for BDMC/CCMC. The next Chief of Trauma/Trauma Medical Director will play a key leadership role in advancing the mission, operations, and service of the division within the Department of Surgery. Reporting to the Director, Division of Acute Care Surgery, s/he will be responsible for planning, organizing and supervising the systematic delivery of care to trauma patients and ensuring continual evaluation of the quality of care being provided. The University of Alabama at Birmingham Department of Surgery has earned a national and international reputation for its unique blending of advanced medicine, excellent patient care and research, with some of its innovative surgical programs being among the largest in the country. The Department provides quaternary surgical care for the entire state of Alabama. The Department has nine divisions, including cardiothoracic, acute care surgery, orthopaedic, pediatric, gastrointestinal, vascular, surgical oncology, plastic, and transplantation surgery. Together with the regional and statewide EMS program, the Division of Acute Care Surgery provides a comprehensive multidisciplinary program of care for the severely injured multisystem trauma or burn victim. UAB Hospital is an American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma Verified Level One, high volume Trauma Center and has become one of the major treatment centers in the southeastern U.S. for patients suffering traumatic injury. The Chief of Trauma/Trauma Medical Director is responsible for providing overall direction in trauma patient care. S/he will develop, administer, direct, and coordinate trauma services. This includes evaluating the components along the continuum of care currently in place and developing the areas in which there are gaps. In addition, the leader will serve as the chair of the Multidisciplinary Trauma Committee and will actively participate in the clinical case review of trauma cases that have been identified through trauma performance improvement. Finally, the Chief of Trauma/Trauma Medical Director will develop and implement trauma outreach education and injury prevention programs for the community at large. The successful candidate ideally should have a record of collaborative leadership and be highly regarded as a clinical and research leader in his/her fields.
