(Posted Nov 23, 2016) – Baystate Health, the home of the University of Massachusetts Medical School-Baystate, is searching for an experienced and collaborative Board Certified Trauma/Surgery Critical Care Surgeon to join Baystate Medical Center (BMC) in Springfield, MA as Division Chief of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery, and Surgical Critical Care. This position will play a key leadership role in advancing the mission, operations, and service of the division within the Department of Surgery.
Baystate Medical Center (BMC) is Massachusetts busiest single site emergency department (over 120,000 visits annually) and the region’s only Level 1 Trauma Center. The Division of Trauma manages over 2,000 trauma activations annually. BMC is one of the most active sites in the country for cutting edge methods such as our rib fixation program. Baystate has a catchment area with over 1 Million lives, and a network of 14 referring hospitals to our Trauma program.

• The opportunity to lead a progressive team of surgeons, with growth opportunities throughout western Massachusetts.
• Work in an academic environment with a supportive Chair of Surgery and executive leadership, with faculty appointment to University of Massachusetts Medical School-Baystate.
• High surgical volume program, with a significant amount of acute general surgery cases.
Ideal candidate should be a nationally recognized surgeon with a record of collaborative leadership and the ability to lead a high volume and growing program, and are expected to demonstrate outstanding strong leadership abilities, be dedicated to education, mentor and teach the resident staff, and be able to work effectively across reporting lines.
