(Posted Jul 11, 2012) – The LifeBridge Health System, Department of Surgery, is recruiting for a Medical Director Trauma Surgery to join the Division of Acute Care Surgery at Sinai Hospital of Baltimore (SHB). The qualified individual should have completed a residency program in general surgery and a fellowship in trauma/critical care, be certified or eligible for certification in both specialties and have at least 4-5 years of experience in trauma/critical care. The well established trauma center at SHB is a Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services Systems (MIEMSS) certified Level II regional adult trauma center with a volume of 1600 – 1800 patients per year. The Division of Acute Care Surgery at SHB covers the trauma service, the state of the art surgical ICU and emergency surgical services, with in-house availability of providers around the clock. The Medical Director Trauma Surgery will lead the efforts of the trauma center, be responsible for quality improvement, coordination of trauma center related services, community outreach, and will represent the trauma center and SHB at TraumaNet, the collaborative of all trauma centers in the State of Maryland. Sinai Hospital of Baltimore is the flagship Acute Care hospital of the Lifebridge Health System and serves the North-west corridor of the Greater Baltimore Metropolitan area and Maryland. The hospital comprises close to 600 beds, a state of the art Emergency Department that handles over 82000 patient visits annually, and a full array of primary to tertiary care services in all medical specialties. SHB is the third largest independent academic and teaching hospital in the State of Maryland. In addition to 5 independent residency programs, the Office of Medical Education at SHB hosts clinical fellows in several specialties, as well as students from the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and other national and international accredited medical schools. The qualified applicant will be eligible for an academic appointment at Hopkins and actively participate in the education of Sinai’s surgical residents, students, and other providers, and participate in statewide education through ATLS™, ATOM™, ASSET™ and other courses. SHB offers a unique opportunity to blend clinical, administrative and academic interests and lifestyle. The opportunity to develop an elective General Surgery Practice within the department is available, as are opportunities to be involved in outreach, hospital and departmental/program leadership. An interest in active scholarly pursuit is desired but not required.
