Conflict Medicine is an interdisciplinary field dedicated to the study and treatment of the health consequences of conflict with a focus on the pathological, psychological and social manifestations of war wounds. Building on evidence-based knowledge and practice, the congress aims to provide a platform for the exchange of experience and expertise between regional and international health practitioners (from civilian, academic and military institutions) in addition to governmental and non-governmental agencies in the field. It will also create the setting to forge partnerships between different stakeholders to provide solutions that ameliorate the consequences of conflict.

Whalen Family Trauma Center which is part of MidHudson Regional Hospital, a 200-bed community hospital, a Member of the Westchester Medical Center Health Network (WMCHealth). MidHudson Regional Hospital is a Level 2 designation hospital for patients with traumatic injuries that require care beyond what is routinely provided by their local community hospital. As a top-level trauma center, MHRH and WMC are at the core of the regional trauma system. (Posted Apr 28, 2017) – The Wright State University Department of Surgery is seeking a board-certified surgeon to join their well-established Division of Acute Care Surgery. The position is for an Assistant-level faculty member. The Division is based at Miami Valley Hospital, Dayton, Ohio; a 735-bed hospital, which has been an ACS, verified Level 1 Trauma Center since 1992 and has over 3500 trauma admissions annually. The candidate will be joining a core of 7 surgeons whose scope of practice includes, trauma, surgical critical care and emergency & elective general surgery. Core responsibilities of the surgeons in the division include resident and medical student education, surgical and critical care of trauma patients, caring for elective and emergency general surgery patients as well as research. The trauma program is supported by 15 advanced practitioners, in-house radiology and interventional radiology, an attached inpatient rehabilitation facility, and all necessary subspecialty support including orthopedics, neurosurgery plastics (including re-implantation), maxillofacial, ob-gyn, and anesthesiology. There is the opportunity for the development of an active general surgical practice, as well as protected time for research. The WSU Surgery department runs a combined civilian/military residency program that graduates 8 chief residents annually. (Posted May 1, 2017) – The Indiana University School of Medicine's General Surgery Division is seeking a general surgeon with fellowship training in trauma/surgical critical care or acute care surgery and will be board certified/eligible in surgical critical care."Indiana University Health (IUH) Methodist has consistently been among the top-ranked institutions as graded by the University Health Consortium (UHC). For the past several years, IUH Methodist has admitted more than 3,500 trauma patients annually, placing it among the largest 5% of trauma centers by volume. There is also a busy Emergency General Surgery (EGS) Service - nearly as voluminous as the Trauma Service - that draws patients from the entire state. As a result, there are two in-house Acute Care Surgeons 24/7: one serves as the primary on-call Trauma Surgeon, and the other serves as the primary EGS surgeon, also serving as in-house backup for the Trauma Surgeon. IUH Methodist operates the largest neuroscience critical care units and hosts one of the largest critical care departments in the country. Both neurosurgical and orthopedic attending surgeons are in-house 24/7. Neurosurgical, Emergency Medicine, Anesthesiology, Critical Care, and Radiology attending physicians are also physically in-house 24/7. There are 130 critical care beds throughout the institution. It has the first, largest, and most comprehensive intensive care patient electronic monitoring system (e-ICU) in Central Indiana. The hospital serves as the home base for a fleet of four LifeLine Helicopters as well as fixed wing transport capabilities. There are approximately 100,000 ED visits per year. IUH Methodist is the flagship of the statewide IU Health Healthcare Network and the evolving IU Health Trauma System. IU Health, in turn, has partnered with Indiana University to form an expanded multispecialty group called IU Health Physicians, which will serve as the employer for new acute care surgeons. Emory University Department of Surgery at Grady is seeking an additional surgical critical care fellow for a one year position in 2017-2018. This recently opened position is in a fully accredited ACGME Surgical Critical Care program. Options for an additional year of advanced trauma training in a busy level I urban trauma center can be discussed. Qualifications: A candidate should have completed a five year surgery residency in an ACGME accredited program. The Emory Department of Surgery at Grady covers an open mixed surgical/trauma ICU with an average daily census of approximately 30 patients and the trauma service admits over 3,000 patients annually with 25% or more victims of penetrating trauma.
