(Posted May 4, 2017) – Trauma Program Manager - Trauma Services Position Summary Primarily responsible for all operational aspects of the assigned program including development, implementation,maintenance, and evaluation Works with other teams and ensures that all tasks are completed in a timely manner and in coordination with the work teams Oversees the work of additional staff, if applicable Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Bachelor's degree in health care or related field required, Master's degree preferred Knowledge of project management, administrative practices and hospital/healthcare systems normally acquired during 5 plus years of related clinical work experience Licensure as a registered Nurse in Maine is highly preferred A high level of analytical skills necessary to assist in the development and implementation of new systems, techniques, to assess patient care and business workflow and/or procedures, to help determine departmental needs, to support improvements in departmental functioning, and to prepare special and recurring reports or analysis Ability to use a wide array of evaluative and analytic techniques, including quantitative and qualitative methods Knowledge of healthcare systems, including but not limited to the organization and financing of health systems and healthcare, managed care systems, health policy, process improvement, and public health principles Knowledge of, and preferably experience in, clinical process improvement literature, techniques, methods, and facilitation Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in writing and in public presentations; ability to write papers, reports and proposals for a variety of audiences Excellent organizational skills necessary for project planning, definition, implementation, and evaluation of effectiveness Ability to lead and collaborate work with teams and individuals in diverse settings Knowledge of relevant practice in medical care, patient care, and support systems Ability to research and synthesize medical and health services literature Essential Functions Manages all aspects of the assigned program(s) Leads the trauma center verification process. With the Trauma Medical Director, ensures essential criteria are met for American College of Surgeons verification process for Level I Truma Centers in accordance with the expectations outlined in the current Resources for Optional Care of the Injured Patient Over sees 4-5 direct reports in the performance of: data management, injury prevention, and research related to the Trauma Center Participates in daily rounds and trauma activations Develops policies and procedures based on the current literature, input from clinicians, and findings from the Performance Improvement and Patient Safety Program (PIPS) Manages and coordinates the systems of Trauma Performance Improvement Program Assumes day to day responsibility for PIPS activities as they relate to all aspects of care delivery Works closely with all members of theTrauma and Acute Care Surgery clinical team to identify complications, and adverse advents Serves as the coordinator for the identification, investigation, reporting and follow up of incidents and quality issues Receives, assesses and forwards opportunities for improvement to appropriate areas using established structures within Maine Medical Center and Maine Medical Partners Coordinates all Trauma related meetings including: Weekly Performance Improvement, Multidisciplinary Care Review Committee, and Trauma Operational Process Improvement Committee Supervises the collection of registry data, coding and scoring Develops processes for validation Ensures that the registry data facilitates performance improvement and prevention activities Leads cross departmental initiatives across: Emergency Dept., multiple surgical specialties, Rehab Medicine, Operating Room, Intesive Care Unit, Surgical Clinic, Care Management, and multiple Nursing Units Displays cooperative behavior Interacts positively and effectively with others to promote a team environment Demonstrates skill in team building and positive problem resolution Manages the Trauma Administration budget and expenses including conducting budget variance analysis and the creation of annual budget targets Facilitates integration of the assigned program and activities with other related initiatives Serves as the administrative liaison of the Trauma and Acute Care Surgery Program to hospital administration and to the complex network of disciplines that work in the provision of care Works closely with Neurosurgery, Orthopedics, Anesthesia and ED liaisons Forwards all relevant cases for review by liaisons Ensures appropriate communication about program within and outside of the MaineHealth system Promotes awareness of trauma activities using a variety of media Identifies opportunities for injury prevention programs in the local community and participates in program implementation Participates and/or coordinates clinical trauma education (TNCC, ATOM, ATLS, FCCS and RTTDC) activities, as well as outreach activities May serve on various standing and other committees Regularly meets with nursing representatives to the Trauma Service and attends Emergency Medicine Department Trauma Committee meetings Represents the Trauma Service on the Trauma Nurse Education Committee with the goal of providing an appropriate number of education courses per year to MMC nurses participating in trauma care Represents the Trauma Service in a variety of local, state and regional forums Maintains membership in Maine's LifeFlight of Maine QI Committee, State Trauma Advisory Council, and New England Regional Level I Trauma Committee MMC Manager Leadership Competencies Leading Change in a Complex Environment - Communicates a compelling and inspired vision or sense of core purpose - Initiates and inspires the organization/unit to accomplish goals - Encourages teamwork and works collaboratively across the organization - Coaches staff through changes - Models and encourages risk-taking and innovation Demonstrating Integrity and Trust - Communicates directly, truthfully, and respectfully with all staff and customers - Acts as a positive role model;
