(Posted Nov 1, 2012) – St. Michael’s Hospital University of Toronto Applications are invited for the position of Director of Trauma at St. Michael’s Hospital. Located in downtown Toronto, St. Michael’s Hospital is a designated provincial Level 1 Trauma Centre and provides care for patients in the Toronto and surrounding region.Trauma care is a key element of the hospital’s Strategic Plan. St. Michael’s Hospital is integrated with the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute, an institute dedicated to the advancement of research and education. The Trauma Director is responsible for promoting high standards of practice through development of trauma policies, protocols, and practice guidelines, participation in rigorous performance improvement monitoring, as well as student/resident/fellows and staff education and research. In this role, it is expected that the Director will organize, direct and integrate the trauma program with all other departments and services within the hospital. Together with the Division Head of General Surgery, the Director will also be responsible for the Trauma- Acute Care Surgery (TACS) service within the Division of General Surgery at the Hospital. The Hospital seeks an established surgeon with strong clinical and administrative skills. A solid research base or understanding of its importance is also essential. It is anticipated that the successful candidate will have an established track record as an academic leader in trauma care and possess the qualities and qualifications necessary to propel forward a program of research and education related to injury within the Institution and University of Toronto. The qualified applicant must hold a Fellowship with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or equivalent and be eligible for licensure in the Province of Ontario. The successful candidate will have completed a Fellowship in Trauma Surgery from a recognized institution. Specialty certification in Critical Care would be considered to be an asset. The applicant should hold status enough to warrant appointment to the University of Toronto, Department of Surgery at the rank of Associate or Full Professor.
