The surgeon would be expected to be board certified or eligible in general surgery, and board certified or eligible in critical care with fellowship training in either surgical critical care or acute care surgery. The practice involves approximately a third each of acute care surgery, trauma surgery and critical care, with active plans to expand our role in acute care surgery. The position features a competitive base salary with bonus for production. We have tried to make our program lifestyle friendly, and run our program as a service and function as a team. On most weekdays surgeons can go home post call. The surgeon will be expected to work approximately 32 weeks per year, with the remainder left for family and other interests, with the other partners covering your patients. Our current arrangement is an approximation of three weeks on and two weeks off with three surgeons on service and two off at any time. Hartford hospital is a 748 bed Level 1 academic/tertiary care medical center with 1930 trauma admissions in 2011, an average of 100,000 ED visits and over 3000 surgical ICU admissions per year. Hartford Hospital has a 16 bed Surgical Intensive Care Unit, a 25 bed Cardiac Intensive Care Unit, and an 18 bed Neurological Intensive Care Unit. The Acute Care Surgery Fellowship consists of 12 months of Surgical Critical Care and 12 months of Emergency Surgery, Elective Surgery, and Trauma Surgery. During the Surgical Critical Care Year, the ACS Fellow rotates for 6 months in the Trauma/General Surgery ICU and will spend the remainder of the year rotating through the Neurosurgical ICU, the Cardiothoracic ICU, the Pediatric ICU at Connecticut Children's Hospital, and on the Palliative Care Service at Hartford Hospital. During the Second Fellowship Year, the ACS Fellow rotates through the Trauma Service, the Emergency General Surgery Service, and the Orthopaedic, Thoracic, Neurosurgery and Vascular Surgery Services.
